Troy Ismir: Take a Chance on My Self

When Troy and I first met, he was working in a 6-figure pharmaceutical sales job, that had sucked the life out of him. Despite being a high achiever, with many accomplishments, a year or so later he admitted that he had been "living a life of quiet desperation.” He felt deeply unfulfilled and was looking outside of himself, through relationships, to try to fill the void.

Troy is exceptionally competent and was being exceptionally brutal to himself. For quite awhile, whenever I held up the mirror to him, he struggled to see how truly extraordinary he is and, instead, would beat himself up emotionally and physically (at the gym) for “still” not being good enough. Today, he knows without a doubt that my mirror, and life’s many mirrors, show him quite the opposite.

Most of the time, we think we know what we want. In reality, we can see and allow our Selves is extremely limited by “the story of our lives,” defined by our subconscious survival instincts to keep us safe. With deep dive after deep dive, we inevitably uncover what we really want, and it’s often 180 degrees in the opposite direction — both scary AND exciting!

Troy knows this very well. He recorded this video in the last few days of 2021, and even over the past 3+ months, his lifework has continued to expand and evolve in surprising and fulfilling ways, that he couldn’t imagine just 3 months ago. YES!
